Differences between source and target texts are basically related to the number of clause complexes. As regards the type of logico-semantic relations that tend to occur most frequently between clause complexes in verbal text and between verbal and visual text, in both source and translated texts, Projection_Locution is the most frequent logico-semantic relation between clause complexes, while Expansion_Extension is the most frequent logico-semantic relation between verbal and visual text. Results revealed a higher number of clause complexes than simplexes. Drawing on systemic-functional theory (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2014) and on Visual Grammar (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006), verbal and visual texts in picturebooks were annotated and analyzed according to the logico-semantic relations identified in them. This article presents a methodology to analyze verbal and verbal-visual logico-semantic relations in picturebooks originally written in English and their translations into Brazilian Portuguese. The similarities of the clause complex relation in ST and TT are stimulated by the similar system of logical choice in the ST and the TT, Secondly, three translation shifts are found: 1) from textual to logical metafunction (complex into simplex), 2) from logical to textual metafunction (explicit into implicit and vice versa), and 3) between logical metafunction, including taxis shift and logico-semantic realization shift. In both the ST and the TT, the preferred taxis system is parataxis and the most employed logico-semantic type is enhancement. The TT is realized with 125 external conjunction, 3 clauses with continuative, and 5 clauses changing from complex to simplex. The ST is realized with 129 external conjunctions and 3 clauses with continuative. From the findings, firstly, 132 complex clauses are found in the ST and 133 are found in the TT. This study, thus, aims to find 1) the pattern of logical choices, including conjunctive relations, taxis, and logico-semantic relations and 2) the translation shifts in mode of meaning in Hades Does Home Improvement by using a qualitative method. Translating clause complex often poses a problem for translators because it relates to mode of meaning. Its relations are divided into conjunctive relations, taxis, and logico-semantic relation. Clause complex is a relation between clause and further clause to create sequence or flow of information.
